MY JUICE EXTRACTOR

Read First Before Buy Black Decker je2060 Juice Extractor

Black Decker je2060 Juice Extractor

I can't agree with the negative reviews about this juicer. It's very heavy, and I have found that the suction cups on the bottom are not even necessary. It never moves when I use it. The lever action is perfect for me, and requires less arm pressure than the tall metal one we have. The wide shape of the lever is very comfortable in my hand. And it removes just as much juice from lemons as our tall metal one (which my husband bought to use at work). Granted, I only use it to make lemonade, and it does split the lemon rind under the pressure. But I haven't noticed any effect on the juice itself, and I certainly don't care what the rind looks like when I'm finished juicing. Cleaning it is a breeze, too.

I made a direct comparison between the two juicers, and found this one to be my favorite. And I like its low profile on the counter - it looks much nicer than the other one. I use it EVERY day. I'm very happy with it!

A durable performer

Juiceman Electronic Professional Series Edition

I am absolutely pleased with the Juiceman on several counts:

1. powerful
2. machine is light and stores easily
3. non-pulpy juice
4. simple to use, minimal cutting prep
5. easy to clean

It's always interesting to read negative reviews of juicers because quite frequently the issue is that the reviewer didn't do enough market research before buying the juicer. Masticating vs. centrifugal, juices vs smoothies, wheatgrass/no wheatgrass, baby food/sorbet/nut butters/milling grain or not, these are all options we have when we look at the selection of juicers available on the market today.

Example: I had a much more expensive Champion juicer several years back and nearly never used it. I found it bulky, heavy, messy for simple juicing (plus the pulp in the juice was a real turnoff for me) and really a nightmare to clean. When I tried to make almond butter with it I found I had to add a huge amount of sunflower oil to "help" the machine grind the almonds. For someone interested in the other applications the Champion can be used for, perhaps this would have been a great machine. I have met people who adore them. But it was definitely not the right machine for me.

My suspicion with several of the negative reviews here is that the reviewers didn't read over the owner's manual before they started using the machine and unwittingly damaged their juicers. And yes, you can get replacement blades--in fact, it's recommended that you replace the blade every 2-3 years or when the pulp begins to seem a bit wet. They cost about $40 online, I believe.

The Bottom Line: If you are interested in non-pulpy, quick juice drinks with minimal fuss and easy clean up, the Juiceman is a terrific machine at a very good price and holds up well (have had mine for about seven years).

One Caveat: You would do well to have a bottle brush or toothbrush on hand to quickly clean a couple of corners where pulp likes to lodge--it takes maybe 5-10 seconds to clean them, but thought I'd mention it in case you hate surprises.

Great Book

Best Review on The Raw Gourmet Nomi Shannon

The Raw Gourmet Nomi Shannon

What first got my attention is the section in Nomi's book called "Ten Raw Food Kitchen Essentials". Without this, preparing raw recipes can require a lot of time in the kitchen, and a lot of planning ahead. ("Darn, I forgot to soak the almonds last night.") This guide shows you how to be extremely efficient, the ingredients you need are always at your fingertips.

There's also a Sprout Chart showing the individual sprouting requirements of every seed, grain, and bean... how long to soak, how many times a day to rinse, how long the tail should be, etc.

On top of that, Nomi provides countless gourmet recipes that are absolutely scrumptious. Many simulate traditional comfort foods, such as oatmeal, Thai peanut sauce, and corn chowder. But the ingredients are more nutritious, more wholesome, and more life-giving. This is the second "raw food recipe book" I purchased, and it basically made the previous recipe book obsolete. Whether you want to save time in the kitchen, or thrill your taste buds, you can't go wrong with this amazing book!

I originally made this comment in response to the reviewer who suggested the blade might somehow put little particles of plastic from the chute into your juice. I think there is enough info here to count as a review:

"I think you must be talking about a different item. This product as a cone-shaped screen flat blade and there is no way you it could curve up to grind away the chute. I have owned this exact model since 2000. 11 years later, I have never changed the blade and never had any problems at all with it. I just found your review because I was wondering how this machine fares with others on the market and wondering if any reviewers might have mentioned the brush it comes with. I lost that metal brush a while ago and have just been using a nylon vegetable brush to clean the blade. I know that the Juiceman booklet it came with said to use metal otherwise I might end up eating tiny bits of plastic with my juice from the nylon brush, but it just doesn't really look like it's a problem. So, your review got my attention based on the title "if you like plastic in your juice."

It doesn't seem like it's ever going to die, so I have a hard time justifying buying a new machine. But, I have no idea what you're talking about here. The only time anything remotely bad that happened to me was one time I put the blade down without the plastic thing underneath and closed up the machine and started to juice. There was a really strong stench of burning plastic immediately and I turned it off and then noticed that I forgot to put that one piece on. Put it on, the problem was solved. But, I really have no idea how the blade could curve up and grind away the chute. The blade is flat and the chute is below the blade where the juice comes out. Where the pulp comes out, there is about 1-2 inches of space from the blade to the top of the chute. There is no chute that could be touched by the blade. "

Fabulous Juicer!

Hamilton Beach 67600 Mouth Extractor

I paid $50 for this at WalMart and I can't praise it enough. If you want to try juicing and you want a powerful yet affordable machine, this is the product for you. Do all the research I did - compare prices, performance reviews, and product specs - and you will see that this product has all the power and features of machines that cost almost double the price, yet it's priced for the average consumer.

The 800 watt motor works like a dream; the newer Hamilton Beach models are being marketed as having 1.1 horsepower motors but this is just a marketing trick - 800 watts is the equivalent of 1.1 horsepower. Make sure you read labels and product IDs carefully - there was a seemingly identical product right next to the one I bought that was the same price but was slightly larger and only had a 450 watt motor. When it comes to a juicer that works well, you need power, not size.

One thing I must mention is that the instructions encourage you to soak the mesh basket/filter in hot soapy water immediately after use to make cleanup easier. The fact is that this should not be a suggestion but a requirement. Grainy-textured fruits and vegetables (apples, pears, potatoes) leave behind sand-like residue on the basket that is very difficult to clean if you do not soak it in hot water. But if you do soak, clean up is a breeze. And the handy brush that comes with the product is perfect.

Try juicing - it will change your life. And buying this product is the best place you can start.

We love it!!

Best Review on KitchenAid KJE500WH Juicer Citrus Press

KitchenAid KJE500WH Juicer Citrus Press

We purchased this machine specifically for the citrus press feature. We wanted a powerful non-metallic citrus press that would stand up to heavy use.

We didn't want a metal press that could in any way taint the flavor of the juice.

We have never used this machine as a "juicer." We also own a VitaMix that we use regularly and another brand of juicer that we use for juice extraction.

As a citrus press this machine has exceeded our expectations. The fruit is finished pressing before the juice has finished draining out of the machine. It is FAST and powerful. It will press juice as fast as we can place a half of a lemon, lime or orange in the machine and pull down the lid. SECONDS! The machine is large enough to accomodate grapefruit, although our primary use is for lemons and limes.

The press attachments clean easily.

Since this model has been discontinued by Kitchenaid, we've been considering buying another one to keep in reserve in case this one ever goes belly up.
