Read First Before Buy Green Star GSE 5000 Elite Extractor

Green Star Elite has worked quite well. I have been able to juice celery, and a variety of other veggies easily. There seems to be alot of juice and very dry pulp. THe machine cleans up easily and after several cleans it has gotten very easy to do. After about 4 cups of juice are made I preffer to clean equipment and make more juice instead of juicing more when the filter seems full. Does not take long to do. I am glad we spent the extra money on the nicer juicer the first time around. I believe it takes less veggies than other juicers to get the amount of juice we are getting. Excellent product even though the first one came with a defect causing it to run in reverse while in regular postion. Amazon was very helpful with the return and we got another machine the same week.

BalasHapusI have owned 3 juicers before this one, but this is by far the best one!!! I would recommend it for the people who are serious about their health, but not for the person that only juices occasionally.....Great Juicer!!!!
BalasHapusI am writing this because I had SO much difficulty finding more than a handful of customer reviews online when trying to find a juicer.
BalasHapusMy family has been juicing for years now with a popular-brand centrifugal juicer. My stepdad was diagnosed with cancer and we started researching the Gerson Therapy. This juicer is NOT recommended for the Gerson Therapy, but their system is so complicated and expensive we decided to compromise. We went with a twin-gear because it's a much better juicer than a centrifugal but it's not nearly as much trouble as a 2-stage press system.
Anyway, we love it. We estimate we're getting twice as much juice per-veggie than we did with the centrifugal juicer. We juice at least 4 times per week (for 3 people) so we're thinking the price difference will easily be paid in a year just from the savings on produce.
It's also easier to clean than our old one. The hardest part to clean is the mesh screen... it has some tight corners that the pulp really gets jammed into, but after cleaning it a couple times it gets much faster. The rest of the parts are easy.
I haven't experienced any of the design flaws that the other reviewer mentioned. I mention that review specifically because it almost talked me out of getting this juicer, but I'm glad I decided to go ahead anyway. No juice has leaked out in any weird areas. The only part of the safety hood on mine that got dirty was the top tray around the feed chute, which is easily rinsed off. Some pulp gets into the area immediately around where the gears attach, but that can be cleaned with a squeeze of water from the sponge and a quick wipe-off. No juice got out any other areas.
My wife and I use the Elite several times a day and have juiced kale, spinach, carrots, chard, fennel, beets, apples, ginger, endive, cucumbers, lemons, limes, celery, onions, garlic, parsley, cilantro, cabbage, pears and probably some I forgot about. The pulp always comes out very dry. I also bought the pulp knob designed for fruit which allows the fruit pulp to exit the juicer easier keeping the juice from backing up. The only difference is the spring in the fruit knob is weaker than the one that comes with the Elite. I've also used it with the two different homogenizing blanks to make truffles, cracker mix (for dehydrating) and sorbet from frozen bananas and frozen strawberries. Everything always comes out perfect.
BalasHapusTip for making sorbet:
Put the gears in the freezer for about 20 minutes before making sorbet. Since the gears are metal they will melt the frozen fruit if not chilled before hand and the first part of the sorbet will come out like liquid until the frozen fruit makes the gears cold. If you're having trouble with the unit shutting down when trying to create sorbet from very hard frozen fruit (the Elite has built in shutdown protection if it detects binding), let the fruit sit for about 5-10 minutes at room temperature before putting through the unit.
Tip for cleaning:
1. Read the manual! The manual recommends using the dull side of a butter knife to clean the screen. This actually works very well. Hold the screen at an angle under warm/hot running water and start cleaning the screen from the inside. Use the butter knife's dull side to scrape the screen allowing the water to flush the screen from the inside out then clean the outside. This works so well I rarely use the included brush anymore.
2. Use the sharp end of a wooden skewer to clean the remnants from the little recessed areas where the end of the gears fit into the part that goes over the screen. Flush with water. When done with the skewer put aside and let it dry for next time. I can usually clean everything in about 4 minutes now.
3. To prevent or minimize the white plastic parts of the gears from turning orange when juicing carrots try running the carrots through before other items. If you are juicing carrots only then try spraying on some Fantastik on the plastic parts of the gears when cleaning, let sit for a few minutes then brush with a toothbrush and rinse.
I highly recommend the Green Star Elite to anyone looking to get the most juice from a juicer in this price range along with the ability to create sorbet or mix ingredients for truffles or crackers for dehydrating. It's extremely versatile. The next step up would be the Super Angel at $990 or the Norwalk at $2500 both way out of my budget.
I was sceptical about buying a machine this expensive without having a lot of feedback on the product. However, I have been quite pleased with the ease in cleaning and the amount of juice it produces. I used to blend my juices and then remove the pulp using a nut milk bag. With the green star elite I can definitely taste the difference. The juices last a good amount of time, and I like that I can use it for other purposes. Really glad I have one.
BalasHapusI did a lot of research on juicers before selecting the Elite 5000. It worked great for 35 days after which the twin gears stopped turning consistently and now it makes a noise like gears slipping. It will no longer juice any vegetables. I have checked assembly and inspected the parts for damage and cannot find any so I assume the problem must be in the main component. I am just now trying to get the machine fixed or replaced and will let you know if I get prompt service or the run around. I am very disappointed. I read testimonies of these things lasting 20 years.
BalasHapusUpdate: The supplier replaced the main component immediately. He also mentioned that in ten years of supplying Green Star juicers that this was the first one that had ever failed. The replacement component fixed the problem and so far I have had no additional issues. This really is a great juicer. I changed my rating from one star to five now that the problem is fixed
We bought the Green Star Elite Juicer through Amazon.com. It arrived quickly and safely with standard shipping. Used it for the first time yesterday for a juice combo of carrots, spinach, celery, and red pepper. What a marvel. It operates quietly and efficiently. Oh, the power! It is easy to assemble for use and to disassemble to clean. The clean up is quick and easy. Thank you for making this product available through Amazon.com.
BalasHapusI just received my Greenstar elite. I did alot of research before buying this product, including talking to several nutritionist's and health food advocates. I can tell you this is b y far worth the money. The quality of the juice is amazing, add to that easy operation and clean up plus the fact that you can make pate and other items with just processing the food and this juicer pays for itself.
BalasHapusYou will not be disappointed. Get rid of your old juicer and step up-you'll thank me!
i have had my gs-elite for almost 3 weeks and i really like it. it performs better for me than the gs-1000 which i have been using for several years.
BalasHapusi like using the wooden plunger because it is gives me a lot more sensitivity when feeding things into the feeding chute.
it seems that the gs-elite makes carrot juicing a bit easier than with the gs-1000.
the clean up is very easy for me and i like the "snap open and close" new style latching arms of the gs-elite.
most of the parts rinse off easily after a short period of soaking in the sink and i use my sink sprayer to 'squirt right on to' and clean the back part of the juicer body where everything attaches. also i can wash the cover easily in my dishwasher if needed and it comes out nice and clean.
one thing i personally enjoy about the gs-elite is that the feeding chute cover- assembly can be turned upside down and placed on a small towel after being washed so that it functions as a basket to hold the other juicer parts as they are drip drying after being washed in the sink. when i go to use my juicer again they are waiting for me nicely dried and ready to assemble.
also ...the stack of parts (drip drying in the cover basket) looks very neat as it sets on my kitchen counter.
Greenstar Elite GSE-5000 twin screw juicer today....omg so glad we went with the twin screw instead of the Centrifugal juicer as the twin screw has alot higher yield. Made up a batch of juice that will make your head pop off and shoot sparks out of your ears. yuuuumy
BalasHapusWas very worried about cleaning this product as its been said its hard to clean, well I am disabled and within 5 minutes I had it taken apart scrubbed and in the dishwasher.... two thumbs up (( its easy to clean ))
Well worth the 500.00 for this juicer that works, unlike paying a hundred or hundreds for other units that produce nothing but headaches!
