Black Decker Vegetable Juicer Extractor

I purchased this Black and Decker juicer a few years ago and it is still working fine. I feel it is one of the most effective juicers and the price is right! Most juicers are horribly expensive and difficult to clean. This juicer comes apart easily and all the pieces can be washed in the dishwasher.

I find this juicer works best when you cut pieces of fruit and vegetables fairly small. After a few times you learn how small to cut the produce. Like a cucumber must be cut in fourths and apples must be cut into small slices.

If there are any problems with this juicer it is that it vibrates quite a bit while being used. It seems better if you put a cloth/rag under the juicer. This helps to keep the cup collecting the juices stable. It also collects drips and keeps the counter clean.

I have used juicers in the past which were much more difficult to clean so I think that is something to think about especially if you are going to go on a juice fast or use the juicer at least once a day. This juicer is also not very noisy which is a plus if you want to juice in the morning.

  1. I am a "newbie" to vegetable and fruit juicing. I have a basic centrifugal Black and Decker Juice Extractor (received as a gift 6 years ago). My interest in juicing has peaked in that my health and well-being has diminished since I had my 2 children (I gained 60 lbs. during those 3 years and have just recently lost it all). I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and have since been placed on Lyrica. I definitly do not want to remain on a drug so I have been researching the benefits of eating organically and juicing and feel that this may help "heal" my body. However, a lot of websites out there dedicated to juicing claim that you need a "twin gear" juicer or a more expensive juicing machine otherwise you aren't going to get the most nutritional benefit from the vegetables and fruit. I don't have the money to buy a new machine. Is my modest centrifugal juicer going to give me the benefits of juicing? If so, are there any juice recipes that you might recommend? Thank you!

  2. I have three vegan cookbooks that I've never used. Partly because I just don't have time, but mostly because really using them would require going out to buy dozens of spices and ingredients (many of which I've never heard of), buying a blender, processor or juicer, and essentially learning how to be a chef. And the recipes are almost always exotic, unusual to the point of being impractical -- many are impractical to the point of being laughable. My typical day is twelve hours of work or more. And that doesn't include commute time. I can't afford to hire a full time chef/dietitian. It's not at all practical that I'm going to spend a lot of time in the kitchen cooking strange, exotic sounding dishes. And almost everyone I know is in the same boat. I'd like to get healthy and I think a vegan diet might be the best way to go, but I'm looking for a book that is more of a guide to being vegan with a busy lifestyle than a book of silly, impractical recipes. Limited time in the kitchen. Ordinary fruits, vegetables, grains, ingredients. Perhaps a restaurant guide for vegans. Suggestions??????????
