Omega J8004 Nutrition Commercial Masticating

I purchased this juicer to save money on a 21 Day juice fast. I was able to make 2 Quarts a day, which would have cost me over $500 if purchased from a local vendor, without any issues. Given the price of organic produce, I knew I wanted masticating type unit for optimum efficiency. Cleanup was super easy - 5 pieces total taking 5 seconds to assemble/disassemble - the supplied brush works great on the internal grating section.

As for the juice, it is delicious. Green apples work great, and the pulp is so dry. Never had any issues with celery, carrots, beets or ginger. Also ran frozen bananas through afterwards, and it tasted better than icecream with blackberries and chocolate nibs. It did not fare too well with pears, as they are just too soft, so to the Vitamix those went for some fresh pear-sauce.

Here are some tips that may be common knowledge for others: Celery feeds better with the leaf section first. Do not waste time coring apples or removing seeds, they are a great on a short list source of vitamin B-17. Don't waste time cutting bottom off of carrots.

Video review for the Omega 8004 (white version of the 8006) masticating juicer

Likes: Base has a compact 11"x8" footprint, 15-year warranty, quiet operation, ease of juice (har har), 30-second clean-up, efficient, produces a dry pulp, juice is low-foam and fantastic, multi-functional - can be used with included attachments to make nut butters, grind coffee, mince produce, and extrude pasta.

Dislikes: A little slow, narrow 1.5" feed tube, soft/juicy items like cucumbers and citrus fruits need to be pushed down to prevent jamming.

Green juice recipe in the video (sorry I presented some items out-of-frame, I'm a first-time videographer too), produces about 2 cups of juice in 5-6 minutes:

    3 stalks celery
    6 large romaine leaves
    Big handful spinach (2 oz)
Small bunch of fresh herbs (parsley, basil, cilantro, mint, or a mixture)
1 small (2") peeled lemon, with pith, halved lengthwise
2 small (3") green apples, cored and cut into eighths
1/2 large English cucumber, quartered lengthwise
    1/2-inch piece of peeled ginger

Tips: Alternate hard fruits and veggies (apple, celery) with soft (lemon, cucumber) when pushing down the tube. Best to end with a hard veggie like celery or carrot to "clean-out" the auger. I place the filter directly on top of the juice collection basket (the smaller one, closest to the base), even though the manual tells you not to use it during the juicing process.

To clean, I disassemble and soak the parts in a bowl of hot water (the prep bowl works nicely if you're using one) while I drink or bottle the juice; then give the parts a quick rinse and air dry on the dishwasher rack.

  2. Honestly I had never owned a juicer like this, but it does amazing things for you.

It has pretty much replaced my blender and food processor, I am a fan of raw food recipes, and while the recipe book suggests that something will take 50 min to prepare (due to the use of blender and food processor) I finished the dish in 30 min...it does a great job with nuts and all hard foods.

I've only had it for about 2 months but it seems really strong and keeps surprising me everyday with all the things I can use it for.

It is easier to clean than my old manual juicer so that's a plus, really easy to set up and use.

Great for wheatgrass! it gets the last drop of juice from it, sometimes I run the pulp through again and it gets more juice.

  3. I've used up two centrifugal juicers in about 4 years. I decided to lay down the money and go with a great machine. Wow, I didn't expect it to provide such excellent results. It's very quiet; much more so than the Champion style or centrifugal style by leaps and bounds. You can talk while using it. I was afraid it would be slow. It's much faster than I was expecting with the auger style process. There is basically no foam in my juice which is magical. My centrifugal had almost as much foam as juice and foam is not good for health reasons and just loss. I mainly juice carrots with a 1/2 pear or 1/2 apple. Very nice. I tried beets, celery and even kale. No problem at all, except for digesting the beet juice. I did have to slice the beet. After reviewing all the videos I was worried that I'd have so much prep time. Not the case. I use whole carrots with an occasional trim at the top for the 1 1/2 inch opening. My centrifugals had a larger opening, but was odd shaped so large round carrots or other objects still would not fit. I saw videos of people tossing whole apples into their gee whiz centrifugal juicer. Who would want to do that. Toxic seeds and parts I don't want in my body. True, I've only used it for a month, but the quality of every piece seems superb. I would have no reason to doubt it will last 15 years. I have an engineering background so I look for how things are built, forgive me. I feel cleaning is easier than my centrifugals. I had to clean the pulp out of them a couple of times per juicing and that was tough. Also, this device is much easier to thoroughly clean. I decided against the Champion when I saw juice ooze out the side of the screen and items pop out the top. That just can't happen with this unit. Since I use it so often it has replaced the food processor on the counter top. It looks sharp in the kitchen and the handle makes it easy to pick up and move. I use a mixing bowl with suds to drop the items into for a final clean and disinfection after a rinsing and prior to a drip dry. We used the blank plate for frozen dessert, but ate too much to digest it well. We're learning about various juices and desserts as we can do so much more with this unit. The pure kale juice was an interesting exploration.

This juicer has more than exceeded my expectation.

  4. This 8004 model is the one to go with. I was almost going to get the 8005 model since it was cheaper (Sorry I can't disclose prices, but the 8005 is its closest price competitor), but here is what you get for a little more if you go with the 8004 model.

    1. The 8004 has an extended warranty of 15 years versus 10 years for the 8005 model.
    2. The 8004 comes with a GE Ultem auger (the thing that drills your veggies and fruits) that is 8X's stronger and is NOT made of melamine (which is a softer plastic and according to another reviewer, melamine is known for appearing in contaminated animal food from China, which in tests artificially appears as protein). Although the melamine auger is FDA approved, I rather not deal with it, if I have a choice. Plus, the melamine auger (which is white) will stain over time and the GE Ultem auger (which is black) will not. For those who own the 8005 model, you can replace the melamine auger with the GE Ultem auger (the part is interchangeable and fits both models) for 59.00 by ordering through Omega.
    3. The 8004 has the power switch located at the bottom on the back side of the unit, which was relocated in this new model to prevent it from getting wet. The 8005 model has the power switch located on top of the unit and has been reported to get wet and needing to be replaced over time.
    4. The 8004 also comes with a bigger juice container, which overtime you will greatly appreciate.

These were some of the answers I was hoping to find or get further clarification when I was making my decision to purchase the 8004 model. For those looking between these two models (8004 and 8005) this information should help you make your decision. That being said, go with the 8004 you won't be disappointed.
