Oster 3186 Juice n Serve 27 Ounce Automatic

The Juice Fountain Elite is the first juicer that I have owned and I have had it for about a month now. My juicer appeared brand new and came with its manual and cleaning brush. I find it works well with hard fruits and vegetables (apples, carrots, beets, celery, ginger) and some softer fruits and vegetables (watermelon, tomatoes, cucumbers). By "well" I mean that the waste product is dry and I don't feel like I've lost a lot of juice. However, it seems to make a mess of berries and leafy veggies (spinach, cabbage). On the bright side, there are lots of different juice combinations with the fruits and vegetables that do work well in the juicer. In addition, the clean up is easy. Though everything is dishwasher safe, I rarely bother since it is faster just to rinse the parts in the sink. I also like the fact that it is relatively quite. I wouldn't try to carry on a conversation while juicing, but the machine doesn't assault my senses first thing in the morning when I make my breakfast.

  1. I was looking at buying the Jack Lalane juicer, but then I discovered that I would have to PEEL all my oranges, lemons and limes (the peel oils are bitter). Since I only juice citrus fruits, I decided to try this juicer to avoid pain in my wrist when I use a hand juicer. I was surprised by the power of this device, I can press down very hard and it keeps turning. It also gets out EVERY LAST DROP of juice from the fruit, something I could never do by hand. With this juicer I am now getting almost twice the juice I had been getting by hand! I love this juicer, it is easy to use and easy to clean. You can't beat the price either.

  2. It is light weight, it has a small footprint, it captures the juice in its own pitcher, it juices perfectly, separating pulp/seeds from the juice. It was bought specifically because I had a large supply of Honeybells from Florida and I didn't want to lose them so I went from eating to juicing. I so like this juicer that now I will buy citrus to keep it working. If I had one complaint it would be that it does its job too well and that I might like more pulp in my glass of juice. But even there I can solve that my spooning pulp from the strainer. It has seen hard duty since I bought it, there are no signs that it can't meet the challenge. I have no problems recommending it to purchasers, am thinking of giving it as a gift to some young ones on my gift list.

  3. I was a little concerned about how this juicer would measure up to our stronger wattage one which was heavy to lift down from an upper cupboard, the pitcher was way too large, and the pitcher handle had broken off. I like the compact size of this model, and it has NO problem efficiently juicing oranges for OJ or lemons for recipes that require juice. I only have an electric juicer because my wrists are sensitive (everyone who uses a keyboard too much should avoid the repetitive movements required with an old-fashioned glass juicer). Am very satisfied with this Oster 3186.

  4. We have an orange tree and I had buckets of oranges. This juicer made short work of it. Small, compact, easy to store. Easy to wash. Everyone should have one.

  5. I am completely tickled by how fun this juicer is to use. I read the reviews on a half-dozen under-$40 juicers, and after all the talk of wattage and comparing strainers I just gotta say: Any one of these juicers is better than not having this much fun for one more day!

I've made three large pitchers of lemonade now. The motor seems fine for reaming citrus; the directions say not to juice continuously for too long. Sometimes it's tricky to get the "reverse direction" feature to kick in. The directions say "hand wash only," but life is too short: I put the pitcher, strainer, and rasp all in the dishwasher--so far to no ill effect. The plastic top cover just keeps the dust out when not in use.

This is the best under-$20 I've spent in the kitchen in a long time!

  6. This is a great little juicer. Reasonably priced and works really well. We have lemon and orange tree and use it often. It is perfect for our needs.
