Good juicer and the reason behind horrendous wait,
By A Customer
I bought the first one, in cobalt blue, in July 2001 and I just placed an order for the silver one (only available color at the time of order) in March 2004 as a wedding gift for my friend. In reading all the reviews, it is interesting that the more recently placed reviews complain more about the delivery time than the actual product. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the silver one for my friend will be delivered in a timely manner. My cobalt blue juicer was made in Venezuela - a country that is currently experiencing political and economic turmoil. That fact may explain long and unreliable lead times - the onset of civil unrest in Venezuela seems to correspond with the beginning of hostile reviews specifically in regards to delivery delays...
And now, the review of the product:
It is a manually-operated juicer with a blend of engineering ingenuity and design elegance. Manual operation utilizing lever principle means simple assembly - no motors or electric circuitry to burn, no gears to wear, no buildup of residue in hard to reach areas. The large juicer is beautifully proportioned and very satisfying to watch even when it is just sitting on a counter. As one reviewer noted, it is a conversation piece and I can't agree more. However, the strongest proof of design elegance comes when one actually uses it. Its appearance immediately informs the first-timer how it is operated; no instruction manual necessary, as was in the case with the gentleman who encountered the juicer in Germany. The lever is on center with the entire juicer so there is no presence of eccentric force that can topple the unit. The juice extractor parts are large enough to accommodate grapefruit and certainly perfect for juice oranges. For smaller citrus fruits, I now provide a rubber shim as recommended by another reviewer, or squeeze two halves balanced on top of each other at once, as I used to do.
The resulting juice is the best one will ever taste - no commercially distributed juices nor do the juices extracted from electric juicers can ever match the pure taste of a freshly squeezed juice. There is also a satisfaction factor of having squeezed the juice yourself involved here. In short, it is the best juicer on market. Having said that, there are a few minor detractions - the juice extractor does stick to the rind and lift up despite the interlocking mechanism. The paint did shave off from the friction points and ended up in the juice in the beginning as noted by an earlier review. Also, there are inconsistencies from unit to unit due to marginal workmanship - I bought my cobalt blue juicer in store after side-by-side comparison with two other identical models. Take into consideration that this is not a precision-engineered item from Germany or Switzerland, but a simple yet effective juicer made in Venezuela. I hope some of the minor shortcomings are addressed and refined and that the success of this product would provide a modest contribution to the stabilizing of a troubled nation.

The Orange-X large size commercial juicer, in silver, is easy to use and efficient in its juicing capabilities. There is very little to clean and the manual operation allows for juicing anywhere at anytime.
BalasHapusIf you love fresh squeezed O.J., and you don't mind an initial expenditure that is somewhat costly, you will be blessed with an appliance that will provide you with delicious, daily, fresh juice.
I heartily recommend this item to those of us who love fresh squeezed orange juice.

BalasHapusThis is the only lever-operated juicer that I have not been able to break up, and I have used most of them. There are no gears to break or strip, no white, base metal to crack. It's all solid stainless steel or heavy cast iron. Through a unique lever design, the force exerted on the orange at the end of the stroke is enormous. For a large orange, it will take a little muscle to complete the squeeze. For a medium, standard size orange, the force needed to complete the task is unbelievably small. I highly recommend it for professionals or those who want their fresh-squeezed OJ every morning.
BalasHapusThis is a wonderful juicer. It's big and heavy, but for juicing oranges and other fruit, it's wonderful. I tried the Metrokane juicers (don't bother, they all broke) and I don't think anything could destroy this baby. I'm very happy with it. It's easy to use, but sits tall on the counter.
BalasHapusI was traveling in europe on business and one morning I had breakfast at the hotel. I walked up to the buffet and was looking for some orange juice. Being in Germany, I could not speak with anyone but I noticed an apparatus with a bowl of oranges next to it. As I closed in I saw a juice cup underneath and a cutting board with a knife. From there on became obvious what I needed to do to get some orange juice. As I cut my first orange in half, I was thinking that maybe I would have to use all the oranges in the bowl. As I squeezed the first half of my orange, I was amazed about the amount of juice came out. It only took two regular size oranges to fill a large juice glass with fresh squeezed orange juice. All I had to do was to throw away the squeezed orange halves. No fuss at all. As I finished breakfast, I thought I would try it one more time and it was very easy to have the second glass. When I got home from the trip, I bought a bag of oranges and decided to get my juicer out and have some fresh orange juice for me and my wife. I paid $50 for the one I have and it is a high speed motor type that has sharp cutters spinning to cut the orange up. It does separate the pulp from the juice. When I got done juicing a whole bag I was dissapointed to see a little amount of juice and a big mess to clean up. Also when I tasted the juice it was bitter because some of the orange rind was in the juice.I am buying the orange-x today and cannot wait to get it home to start enjoying sweet fresh orange juice.
BalasHapusIf you've ever wanted fresh OJ in your house, this is the only way to go. Yes, this is the costliest option, but as soon as you get it, you'll understand where the money went. First of all, it's a solidly built device. You could even squeeze orange juice the old fashioned way with it, by slamming the whole thing down on the fruit and collecting the juice. This is, of course, assuming that our ancestors crushed fruit with rocks. With the huge lever, squeezing the juice is a no brainer. Cut the fruit in half, balance it on the bottom piece, and push on down. Pull it up, throw away the remains, and get another one. We had a party where we squeezed over 60 lbs. of oranges and everyone was dying to have a go at it. One woman had to be pried away in order to give someone else a chance. The best part about this squeezer is that there are only two pieces to wash and they pop out easily. As for the rest, just wipe it with a wet paper towel and you're done. I hated using the other electric juicers because it was such a pain to clean. You also had to worry about the engine wearing out. Here, that's no problem. As long as you can move your arm, it'll work.If you like to buy things that'll last and that you'll actually use, go for this one. Months later, it's still a conversation piece in our kitchen, amazing friends with how cool it is.

BalasHapusWe have had this juicer for about six months. My husband is happy that this rather expensive machine has been so useful.
BalasHapusWe make a killer Cosmo using fresh citrus juice. We also mix sparkling mineral water with the juice for a very refreshing drink. I have found the medium sized oranges work the best. If the orange is to big juice squirts out the side.
I highly recommend this juicer. I live in Florida and have a huge pink grapefriut tree as well as an orange, lemon and lime tree in my back yard. As you would expect my juicer has to be heavy duty and easy to use and clean. I have purchased and discarded most other juicers due to 1.t ook up too much counter space, 2. too flimsy, 3. too hard to clean, 4. too noisy, or 5. totally ineffective, etc. This juicer is elegant, the rack and pinion compressor will take all the juice out of medium to large fruit (small fruit you need to stack 2 high, but that's more efficient anyway). It's heavy, but not more than most juicers, and it gives you the leverage you need. I never move mine off the counter so I don't mind the weight. the easily removable cup rinses out in the sink so it's ready to reuse in a flash. It doesn't need a plug and it's quiet unlike electric models. You can fit a pint (lager) glass or a 2 cup cup measure under the spout. I must use it 3 to 4 times a day and i've had mine now for over 2 years. Big thumbs up from me!
